ANIMALS OF THE MASAI MARA

Wild About Africa

The Masai Mara is situated at the northern tip of the great Serengeti plains in Africa some 168 km south of the Equator and west of the Great Rift Valley. Lying between 1,000 and 2,000m in altitude, the savannah grassland and acacia scrub is home to elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and a smaller population of black rhino. Hippos and crocodiles wallow in the rivers and several hundreds of species of birds fill the skies ranging from vultures and falcons to hornbills and sunbirds. The vast grasslands support enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra. It is, without doubt, a photographer’s paradise.
